Kaytetye

Definitions by Kwementyaye A.N. Ross 1998

The late educator Alison Nangala Ross wrote 109 plant and animal definitions in Kaytetye with English translations in 1997. She used Gaven Breen’s plant and animal list, working with her grandmother, Blanche Ross.

Myfany and Alison proofed and edited the definitions and translations together over the course of the next year. Shirleen McLaughlin typed them up and entered them into the Kaytetye dictionary database. In the presentation below, we have updated the original spelling from the ‘old’ Kaytetye spelling, before ‘i’ was introduced in 2001. What was originally written ‘ey’ (before a consonant) is now written ‘i’(before a consonant).
